Link: LINK: Ratings Trouble for Meet The Press?

For a very, very long time, Meet The Press has had the highest ratings among all the Sunday talk shows. Both in total viewers and in the key 25-54 age group, MTP has long outpaced its rivals.

But last Sunday there was a little hiccup in that trend. MTP won the overall audience, but they lost the age group. This Week on ABC drew 990,000 viewers in that 25-54 demographic, while MTP drew only 930,000. (The other competitors were far behind. Face The Nation had 560,000, and Fox News Sunday had 420,000.)

Why the slippage? Who knows… and one week does not a trend make. But if I had to speculate… I would say it was because of last week’s guest, Senator John McCain (R-AZ). Viewers in the target demographic were likely not impressed by yet another opportunity to hear McCain’s views. And MTP (and the interview itself) failed to convince anyone of McCain’s comparative relevancy on the issues.
